<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">Have you heard of TOMS shoes? These shoes are some of the most comfortable
shoes that I have heard of in a long time.
Besides comfort, there is another reason to purchase these shoes. With every purchase, you not only get a pair
of fantastic shoes for yourself but TOMS sends a pair of shoes to a child in
need. It is almost like a two for one
deal but even better. You are not only
getting a new pair of shoes but you are helping a needy child also have a new
pair of shoes. I think this company is doing things the way it should be done,
taking care of people in need. Go to
your local shoe store and try out a pair of TOMS or look for them online at
www.toms.com.

As we all know the temperatures are dropping. So how do we stay warm and still save on our heating cost? According to grandforksherald.com there are six ways to save on your heating cost this year. I have written about all of these Ideas before however, since it is that time of year that the temperatures are dipping again I felt it may be worth reminding you again of these important changes that you can make to help keep your home warm and your utility bill lower.

1. Check your furnace filters each month and replace if necessary.

2. Take a look to be sure you have good airflow around registers and radiators to increase energy efficiency.

3. Sealing up leaks with caulk, spray foam and/or weather stripping will stop air leaks. You will also want to check doors and windows, and caulk, seal and weather-strip any drafts.

4. Keep your blinds up and the curtains open on a sunny winter day to absorb heat. Close them at night to keep heat inside.

5. Put insulation in your ceiling and in the attic, your heat is literally going through the roof. Be sure to get the right R-value for your area.

6. Use a programmable thermostat.

Also always remember, if you need more ideas contact your local utility office and ask for an energy audit. In many states, these are free. So make the call and see what they can do to help you stay warm and save money this winter.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01591018676670054344noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-798814101861277748.post-39860424270180795232012-11-05T13:25:00.001-06:002012-11-05T13:25:56.478-06:00Best Deals On Holiday TravelAre you traveling for this holiday season? Do you know how to get the best savings for your trip?

This is the time of year that we all start thinking of how and where we are going to spend the holidays. Are we going to fly or drive or even take a train? Do we need a rental car or a hotel? With all of these choices to make I recommend that you start planning your trip as soon as you can. If you plan early you can travel for reduced fares. Many web sites can offer you a great deal on travel and hotels. If you travel during the week (Monday through Friday), the savings is normally better. Many hotels offer discounts for their weekly guest. Always check to see if you qualify.

According to ABC NEWS these are the best days to purchase Holiday Airfare and the best days to fly this holiday season.

Thanksgiving: The longer you delay, the worse it gets. If your ticket purchase is delayed after Nov. 1, add an average of $5-$10 per day to your airfare total until you finally pull out that credit card and pull the trigger. Waiting will not bring any magical savings.
Christmas: The best time to purchase this airfare is by Nov. 10; after the second week in November you can start adding an average of $5-$10 to your final ticket price for each day you delay beyond that.

Cheaper Days to Fly During the Holidays. You can save money by flying the "cheaper" days. Cheapest days of all: the actual holiday.
Thanksgiving: Cheaper days include the Monday before the Turkey Day (Nov. 19) and Thanksgiving Day itself (Nov. 22). If at all possible, try to avoid flying on the Wednesday before and the Sunday and Monday after Thanksgiving.
Christmas: You can really save if you can travel a little early, up until Dec. 18; after that, higher prices kick in although as noted flights on Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and New Year's (Jan. 1) are relative bargains.
You can also save by flying cheaper times of the day such as overnights or red-eyes and early morning flights though this can be difficult if traveling with the family.

The rule for this and any trip is to remember to make your plans early. Have a great time with your family and make new memories this season.

One of the coolest features that newer WiFi-enabled programmable thermostats offer is the ability to adjust the temperature of your home from work, while on vacation or basically anywhere with an internet/mobile phone connection. In addition to being a fun way to prank the other members of your family by making them freeze or burn (just kidding, please don’t do this), you can save a lot of energy with this function by checking and adjusting your temperature settings right from your computer, tablet or smartphone.

Desktop Apps

Most WiFi-enabled programmable thermostats have their own desktop apps or programs that allow you to register and login to control your thermostat using your computer. For example, Honeywell’s is called My Total Connect and it’s very easy to set up. The registration is very similar to setting up a router, and Honeywell even has a step-by-step video showing you how to set up your wireless connection to your thermostat.
Mobile Apps

Having access to your thermostat via computer is great, but what if you’re on your way home from work or sitting on a beach? Many WiFi-enabled thermostats now have their own apps that let you receive high/low temperature alerts and control your heating and cooling right from your smartphone.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">Autumn is here! This is one of my favorite
times of the year. All the leaves are

some work. There are many things to take
care of before Autumn is over and old man winter arrives.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">When all the leaves
have fallen the first thing that you have to do is clean the gutters. Some of us have to clean the gutters more often,
depending on how many trees that are in your yard. It is so important to keep the gutters clean
of leaves so that the water can run freely.
If the gutters back up the water will run down the inside of your walls
causing a very big expensive repair job.
Another job that has to be done this time of year is getting rid of any
loose debris that may be on your property. This is also a good time of year to
seed any bald patches in your yard and apply fertilizer where it may be
needed. Don't forget to rake the leaves;
you would not want them to smother your lawn. In general, this is a time of
year to enjoy the outdoors and get your property ready for the winter. Most if
not all of these jobs can be a do-it-yourself job. If you need help knowing what to do or how to
do it for this time of year just Google your question or check on YouTube. Remember if you can do it yourself then you
are saving money that can go for something that you enjoy. Make it a fun family day and include the
kids. Before you know it, the yard will
be ready for the next season and you will have saved yourself lots of money.

As one of the only nights a year where most families are out of the house and kids are wearing costumes instead of the normal t-shirt and jeans, many parents can become concerned about their child’s safety. Here are some tips from the safety experts at Amber Alert GPS that can help parents stay stress-free and have fun this All Hallows Eve.

Light the way
Make sure you child’s costume is a light color, or if it isn’t have them carry a flashlight or glow stick to help them safely stand-out. If you are looking to be creative, incorporate light into your child’s costume with light up jewelry or reflective tape around an accessory (like fairy wings, belts or even your child’s candy bucket)

According to Money Talks News there are 10 Money Mistakes That Can Ruin a Marriage. Research suggests the way you and your spouse handle money is a significant predictor of whether you'll have a long-lasting marriage. What should you look out for? As anyone who’s been there knows, there’s no such thing as a friction-free marriage. But arguing can be ominous when the topic is money.

Couples who reported disagreeing about finances once a week were 30 percent more likely to get divorced than couples who reported disagreeing about them once a month, according to a Utah State University Study. In another survey, published in the Forum for Family and Consumer Issues, finances proved to be the leading cause of conflict in marriage, with 39 percent of respondents listing it as their primary issue and 54 percent as their secondary issue.
Salt on Your Skin: Pros and Cons
Sea salt can leach moisture out of your skin. But it's a wonderful exfoliant. "In its raw, crystal form, salt stimulates skin renewal and boosts radiance," says Idit Gandelman, Global Head of Training at Ahava (a skincare company based on Dead Sea minerals). A handful of coarsely ground sea salt, mixed with skin-nourishing grapeseed oil can slough off dead skin cells, while the oil replenishes moisture.
It is surprising how many little things that many people do without even knowing the affect that it will have on your credit score. According to Miranda Marquit, financial expert. Her work can be found on many financial websites, including US News, Yahoo Finance, and Huffington Post. These are the top ten things that lower our credit score. If you are doing any of these things then it is time to stop and starting getting that score back up.

1. Skip the Rent. If your landlord decides that he or she is sick of your slow payments, you can be reported to the credit bureaus. On top of that, your landlord can ask a collection agency to attempt to collect on your delinquent payments. Once that happens, the credit bureaus find out and report it.
2. Failure to Pay Medical Bills. With the rising costs of health care, even those with health insurance can find themselves facing high medical bills. Don’t ignore these bills, though. Health care service providers can decide to report your unpaid bills to the credit bureaus or send your account to collection. Collection accounts look especially bad on a credit report.
3. Ignore Library Fines. For many people, the idea that a $5 library fine could be harmful to their financial situation seems silly. However, not paying could cost you even more than what you owe. In order to collect more money and help ease strained local budgets, some libraries have been sending unpaid fines to collection agencies. Once your library fines go to the collection agency, it appears on your credit report. On top of that, the collection agency might add its own fees to the fine. Your $5 library fine could easily balloon into a $20 or $30 cost — and bring down your credit rating on top of it all.
4. Rack Up the Back Taxes. Your unpaid back taxes aren’t just a matter between you and the government. If you end up racking up unpaid taxes, the government can place a lien against you. A tax lien is one of those public records items that appears on your credit report and can drag down your score.
5. Miss Utility Payments. Make sure you pay your utility bills on time. And, if you move, make sure you are completely settled with the company. Even an address forward might not be enough to catch all your final bills; 30 days after your move, call the utility companies and make sure everything is squared away.
6. Buy a New Cell Phone. Increasingly, cell phone providers are checking your credit when you sign up for a contract. In some cases, the company performs a soft inquiry, and your score isn’t damaged. Other times, though, the provider runs a hard credit check. It looks as though you are applying for credit — even though you don’t think that you are.
7. Open a Bank Account. Not all financial institutions check your credit before you open an account, but some banks and credit unions do. Indeed, one of the reasons that your checking account might be denied is due to your credit report.
8. Cancel Your Gym Membership Improperly. When you sign your gym membership agreement, make sure you understand what actions you need to take in order to cancel your gym membership — and find out what the gym will do if you don’t follow proper procedure.
9. Disregard Traffic Tickets. If you have unpaid parking tickets or you ignore speeding tickets and other violations, your credit score could suffer. Don’t think that a violation in another state can be safely ignored . Whenever a ticket is written out, your license plate number is recorded, and it is run. They know who you are, and they aren’t afraid to report you. It may take a little longer, but unpaid tickets will eventually catch up to you.

10. Close Unused Credit Accounts. When you aren’t using your credit accounts, it makes sense to close them, right? After all, it’s not like you are borrowing money with those accounts anymore. Unfortunately, closing those unused credit accounts can have a negative impact on your credit score. Before you close an old, unused credit card, reconsider. Think about how long you’ve had the account, and how it has been helping your credit history length.

These are just a few of the ways that you can have a negative affect on your credit score. I advise you to do your research before you do anything to see how it will affect your credit score. What other ideas do you have that could be a negative affect on your credit score?

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">Okay, I have an idea on how to not only
reuse something in your cabinet but to make traveling easier. Have you ever been in a hotel and needed to
wash out just a few personal items? You
know stuff like sock or pantyhose or even "unmentionables", just
anything that is little but still needs to be cleaned so it can be reused the
following day. I have an idea for you.
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">First,
let's think about how a washing machine works. You put in your items, some soap,
and then the washing machine fills up with water and starts to toss your items
around until they are clean. Then it
dumps out the water, adds new water, and repeats the process. What if you could take something on your
trips to do this same process for your small items? Now you can do just that. Take a big bowl
with a lid that fits tightly. Put in a
few of your items, add the water and a few drops of soap and shake, rinse and
repeat. You now have a small portable
washing machine. Just hang the items
over the shower rod and in the morning you will have clean clothes. Now you have a way to keep your small items clean
while on your trip.

If you are like me and have had the same automobile for several years then you may be feeling that it is time to replace your vehicle with a newer model. Many of us cannot purchase a new car and buying a used car may be a bit overwhelming. We want the most dependable used car on the market that fits in our budget. None of us wants a lemon so what do we do now?

The best choice in my mind is to consult the Consumer Report and J.D. Power and Associates U. S. Vehicle studies on used vehicles. Both of these reports will help us, the buyer, to determine what vehicles age better than others do, and which vehicles have a longer term of reliability.

Consumer Reports and J. D. Power and Associates bases their reliability ratings on surveys gathered from owners of the vehicles. These sources asked questions about not only mechanical problems but also any other problems experienced during the first 12-month of ownership.

With these reports, we have a better chance of getting a great used car and of leaving the lemons on the lot.

Like always do your research and move slowly. Know what type of vehicle you are looking for and what your budget is before you ever hit the car lots. Remember that if you do your research before you go shopping for a car, like any other purchase, then you will be happier with your purchase longer.

Vinegar has been used around the house for
many years. Vinegar can be used for
anything from cleaning to health benefits.
Today I will give you a list of just some of the many health benefits that
vinegar has to offer.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">According to the Vinegar Institute,
vinegar has been used successfully for the following.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">1. Relief From Heartburn.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">2. Soothe a Bee or Jellyfish Sting.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">3. Relieve Sunburn. When I was a child if you got sunburned you
would pour vinegar over a small piece of brown paper and place that on the
sunburned spot. As funny as that sounds
you would be surprised at how fast the sting of the burn disappeared.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">4. Relieve Dry and Itchy Skin. I have found that vinegar is a great itch
remover, just add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to your bath water and the
dry itchy skin is soothed.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">5. Soothe a Sore Throat.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">6. Fight Dandruff. This is a fast easy way to stop the itch of
dandruff and maybe even heal it.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">7. Head Lice Killer. Sometimes your child will bring home head
lice from school. Don't panic just get
the vinegar and pour it over the head slowly. The lice cannot breath and they
will die. Of course you will still have
to remove the lice from the rest of the house but it at least you have a good
start.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">8. Toenail Fungus. I have seen this work
wonders. It may take a little while but

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">It is October again and in a matter of weeks,
it will be Halloween. When my children
were young Halloween was filled with lots of excitement. What costume to purchase was the talk for
weeks. I would always shop at Wal-Mart
or Target for their costumes because I know that you can get a good price for a
costume at either of these department stores. Now my children are adults but
the great prices at department stores still holds. I have also found that like with many other
items you can now get not only a good price online but most of the time a
better choice of costumes to pick from. Now of course you cannot try these costumes
on if you purchase them online but most of the time it can be returned if you
are not satisfied with your purchase.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">Off the top of my head, I can give you a
few online stores that have some of the best costumes and best prices that I
know of online.

that both parties like the others costume.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">I always advise you to do your research

As I have posted before I am always looking for new uses for vinegar because I feel that it is a fantastic natural product. After some research I found this great site, THE VINEGAR INSTITUTE, so I just had to share with you some of the helpful laundry hints that I found. Many of these hints I have blogged about before but many of them just might be new to all of us.

Wine stains: Spots caused by wine can be removed from 100 percent cotton, cotton polyester and permanent press fabrics if done so within 24 hours. To do it, sponge white distilled vinegar directly onto the stain and rub away the spots. Then clean according to the directions on the manufacturer's care tag.

Freshen baby clothes: The addition of 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to each load of baby clothes during the rinse cycle will naturally break down uric acid and soapy residue leaving the clothes soft and fresh.

Clothes washing magic: Clothes will rinse better if 1 cup of white distilled vinegar is added to the last rinse water. The acid in vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics, but strong enough to dissolve the alkalies in soaps and detergents.

Blanket renewal: Cotton and wool blankets become soft, fluffy and free of soap odor if 2 cups of white distilled vinegar are added to the rinse cycle of the wash.

Deodorant stains: Deodorant and antiperspirant stains may be removed from clothing by lightly rubbing with white distilled vinegar and laundering as usual.

Hole removal: After a hem or seam is removed, there are often unsightly holes left in the fabric. These holes can be removed by placing a cloth, moistened with white distilled vinegar, under the fabric and ironing.

Keeping colors fast: To hold colors in fabrics, which tend to run, soak them for a few minutes in white distilled vinegar before washing.

Leather cleaning: Leather articles can be cleaned with a mixture of white distilled vinegar and linseed oil. Rub the mixture into the leather and then polish with a soft cloth.

Scorch marks:
Lightly rub white distilled vinegar on fabric that has been slightly scorched. Wipe with a clean cloth.

Setting colors: When you are color dyeing, add about a cupful of white distilled vinegar to the last rinse water to help set the color.

Shower curtains: Add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to the rinse water when you launder your shower curtain. Do not spin dry or wash out. Just hang immediately to dry.

Unclog steam iron: Pour equal amounts of white distilled vinegar and water into the iron's water chamber. Turn to steam and leave the iron on for 5 minutes in an upright position. Then unplug and allow to cool. Any loose particles should come out when you empty the water.

Clean a scorched iron plate: Heat equal parts white distilled vinegar and salt in a small pan. Rub solution on the cooled iron surface to remove dark or burned stains.

Cleaning Vintage Lace: Soak the lace in cold water, rinsing it several times. Next, hand-wash the lace gently with a wool detergent, such as Woolite. If rust spots are a problem, try removing them with a mixture of white vinegar and hot water.

I hope you have enjoyed this list as much as I did. Do you have any other way to use vinegar in your laundry?

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">On many occasions I either have made too
much for a meal and wasn't sure what to do with the leftovers or just purchased
more food than my family could eat. I
cannot stand to waist food. So I decided to do the research to see what foods
can be frozen for a later use. Below you will find a list of many food items
that can be frozen. To know how long an
item can stay frozen type your food item into Google and add freezer life to
the search. I would suggest that all
items being thawed be done in the refrigerator. Remember that some items will
change in texture when they have been frozen and some items will not change at
all. I am not a frozen food expert so do
your research and surprise yourself on how many items you can save instead of
tossing.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">1.
Dairy products. May dairy
products can be frozen. Items such as cheese and milk are just a start of the
dairy products that can be frozen for a later use.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">2.
Backed products. Many backed
items such as breads, cakes and even cookies can be frozen.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">3.
Baking supplies can also be frozen.
I always freeze my flour to keep it fresh. You may be surprised just how
many baking supplies can be frozen, everything from nuts to sugar. Check out your favorite baking item and see
how long it can stay in the freezer.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">4.
Veggies and Berries. Many vegetables
and berries can be frozen. I love to
freeze strawberries from my garden and use them in cakes and other tasty
desserts later in the year. Most
vegetables and berries can be frozen in one form or the other.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">5.
Eggs. Yes, even eggs can be
frozen. I like to whip them up with some
milk and a bit of cheese and freeze them for a fast breakfast later.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">6.
Meals. Of course you can freeze
either leftovers or even make several meals for a later date. I freeze soup, chicken, pizza and many other
items for later meals.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 18.0pt;">As you can see, the list can go on and
on. What is your favorite item to freeze
and how do you freeze it?
